Opponents Paint Obama as an Elitist - washingtonpost.com

Obama explains to San Franciscans that he thinks small-town Pennsylvanians are gun-toting, racist loons :
"In remarks first reported on the Huffington Post Web site, Obama said, 'You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. 'And they fell through the Clinton administration and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are going to regenerate and they have not,' he went on. 'And it's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.'"

This one will leave a mark. The only possible reason Obama could have said something so clueless is that it is what he really believes. How about the clinging to religion business? That should go over well, especially from somebody who was telling us that we ought to understand why many African-Americans "cling" to people like Jeremiah Wright. Obama's way of dealing with the public is too make them feel all kinds of pain and then offer himself as the solution. He just went way, way too far.
